QKD Days in Madrid

The event "QKD days in Madrid" brought together leading QKD experts, as well as European equipment suppliers and policymakers on 14 and 15 December 2022.

Sponsored by the QuantaGENOMICS’ partner Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, in collaboration with the Austrian Institute of Technology, and Telefónica, Madrid, the event was an opportunity to join contributions from companies, universities, and researchers from 38 members of a European consortium of the Quantum Flagship to pave the way towards a pan-European infrastructure for secure quantum communication (QKD, Quantum Key Distribution, cryptographic networks).

The first of the QKD Days 2022, entitled "On the Road, Large QKD Networks in Europe”, the EuroQCI initiative of the European Commission was presented. Other speakers included: Johanna Sepúlveda (Airbus Defence and Space) and Felix Wissel (Deutsche Telekom).  Under the title "QKD Industry Day", the second day had noteworthy presentations and highlighted some names of the industry, such as Juan Carlos García (SVP Technology Innovation and Ecosystems Telefónica S.A.), Pedro Pintó (HISPASAT), Jaime Gomez (Banco Santander), Jean-Robert Morax (ID Quantique) and Fernando Labarga (GMV).

The presented results of the European OPENQKD project were relevant for the design and implementation of the network, as well as for the industry. The aim was to present ongoing initiatives and proposals to shape the future of quantum communications infrastructure in Europe, bringing together leading QKD experts, as well as European equipment suppliers and policymakers.
